Did you know that the Vly Creek in Halcott is a headwater of the East Branch of the Delaware River watershed?
The Towns of Middletown, Hardenburgh, Halcott and Roxbury and the Villages of Fleischmanns and Margaretville have joined together to form the East Branch Flood Commission to discuss mutual concerns. Also at the table are representatives from Margaretville Central School, Margaretville Memorial Hospital, local fire departments and the M-Ark Project. Staff members from Delaware County Soil and Water Conservation District, NYS Department of Environmental Protection, Delaware County Planning and other agencies help with the dialog to explore measures to prepare us better for future Irenes. Currently, the Commission is meeting monthly to get up to speed. At the April meeting, Stream Management Coordinator Graydon Dutcher from DCSWCD gave a stunning presentation of aerial photographs that graphically illustrated his explanation of the Bushkills’ behavior.
